“FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Luis Rubiales on Thursday after the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) was seen kissing Spain’s football star Jenni Hermoso on the lips following the Women’s World Cup final held last weekend.

“Today, the FIFA disciplinary committee notified Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Association, about the commencement of disciplinary actions against him concerning the incidents that transpired during the final match,” stated the global governing body of football.

FIFA noted that the occurrence “could potentially be regarded as breaches of Article 13, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”

Jenni Hermoso, the standout player from Spain, jointly issued a statement with the Futpro union on Wednesday, urging decisive measures to be taken against the president of RFEF. Their statement underscored the importance of holding individuals accountable for such actions and implementing measures that ensure the protection of female footballers from behaviours they consider unacceptable.

Spain’s women’s football league, Liga F, also demanded the dismissal of Rubiales from his position.

Initially, Rubiales, aged 46, responded defensively to his critics, but he later offered an apology. However, the backlash against his conduct has not subsided.”
