The Federal Government suspended plans to remove fuel subsidy by June this year. Ahmed Zaniab, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, gave the request on Thursday, just after the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting, which was headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
She stated that the NEC, which is made up of state governors, debated extensively on the subject and concluded that it would be unwise to remove the subsidy while the new administration has not yet settled in.
She also stated that the present committee discussing the fuel subsidy problem ought to be expanded to allow for more input from concerned Nigerians.
She notably stated that there needs to be more interaction with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Petroleum Marketers Association, among others.
