The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), would be physically absent from the official commissioning of the Second Niger Bridge on Tuesday (tomorrow).
According to sources in the works ministry who did not want to be identified in public, the N336 billion bridge, regarded as a legacy project, would be commissioned by the president via Zoom, an online platform, with six other road projects.
However, one of the sources stated that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is not part of the six-road project set to be commissioned.
This is despite promises by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, that it will be completed by April 30.
According to the reports, the “second Niger bridge will be commissioned on May 23.” The event will be performed via Zoom by the president. Six more road projects will also be commissioned.”
Meanwhile, ministry personnel are already in Asaba, Delta State, where preparations for the event begin tomorrow.
Tolu Ogunlesi, the President’s Special Assistant on Digital and New Media, also suggested that certain initiatives may be publicly available for public usage during the outgoing president’s transition week, which begins on Sunday.
“This will be Nigeria’s most historic Transition Week, with the commissioning of three brand new bridges: the Second Niger Bridge, the Loko-Oweto Bridge, and the Ikom Bridge in Cross Rivers.”
