Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Makurdi on Tuesday morning for questioning.
According to reports, the ex-governor appeared at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters about 10 a.m., accompanied by several of his personal aides.
He was alleged to have been summoned by the panel to answer questions on his eight years as governor of the state.
It should be remembered that before leaving office, the former governor promised to stay in the country for at least five months to answer any concerns that could arise from his eight years in government.
He also promised to appear before anti-corruption authorities if questioned about any issue.
“Anytime you are invited by the EFCC, don’t be afraid to go, as for me, I am not a coward to run away from the EFCC, if they come for me, I will follow them,” he said.
“I have nothing to worry about; I have no investments in Europe; all I have is in this state.” If somebody accuses me of an any wrongdoing let them come and prove it to me.”
