Dr. Betta Edu, the newly appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, officially assumed her role on Monday, shortly after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Upon her arrival, Dr. Edu was welcomed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, as well as heads of various agencies and parastatals within the ministry.

In her address to the ministry’s staff, Dr. Edu expressed her eagerness to make a positive impact in the lives of Nigerians by fulfilling her responsibilities within the ministry. She emphasized that during her tenure, there would be a strong commitment to transparency and accountability, with the aim of ensuring that the allocated funds have a tangible impact on the citizens’ well-being.

Dr. Edu highlighted the alarming poverty rate in the country, noting that President Tinubu finds the statistics unacceptable and is determined to address the situation. She called on the ministry’s staff to provide their full cooperation and support to help her achieve her mandate as set by the president.

Coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the ministry’s creation, Dr. Edu emphasized the interconnectedness of various sectors and how any failure in education, health, or other areas can lead to humanitarian crises. She expressed her dedication to uplifting the underserved and impoverished through practical and effective programs.

Dr. Edu stressed that the poverty rate, which indicates that over 136 million Nigerians are poor, is not just about numbers but about people’s lives. She pledged to work relentlessly to improve the lives of those affected by humanitarian crises and to ensure the transparency of all expenditures.

Acknowledging the urgency of their mission, she urged the ministry’s staff to collaborate and work diligently to reach the goal of improving the lives of millions. She emphasized that the administration will focus on people-centered, grassroots programs that bring tangible changes to the lives of the most vulnerable.

Dr. Edu revealed her readiness to introduce innovations and changes within the ministry to better achieve their goals. She encouraged a steadfast focus on lifting Nigerians out of poverty, pledging to work collaboratively and set aside political considerations for the sake of achieving tangible results.

In conclusion, she expressed her commitment to listen, learn, and push hard to make a positive impact. Dr. Edu highlighted her personal background of reaching out to the poor and underserved, underscoring her determination to bring renewed hope to the lives of Nigerians facing humanitarian challenges.

Overall, Dr. Edu’s message underscores her determination to tackle poverty and humanitarian crises head-on, with a focus on transparency, accountability, and the well-being of Nigerians in need.
