Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Education Minister, has revealed that he was inexperienced in the education sector before President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him in 2015.
Adamu, the Ministry’s longest-serving minister, said this during a valedictory event with officials and heads of parastatals on Thursday.
He was, however, credited for appointing some professors of education and other capable individuals with the help of officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, that helped him to achieve some success.
“When I was appointed Minister, I knew nothing about education except superficially”
“Because I was new to the field, I called on the help of some colleagues to work on a policy document on education.” I shared my idea with them, and they assisted me greatly; I will be ever grateful to them for their assistance all over the years. The minister appreciated the President for considering him worthy and entrusting him with such a responsibility, “even when I appeared to be unprepared and unprepared for such task.”
I was busy making recommendations and suggestions to the President on who to appoint to his cabinet in 2015,” he explained. To my amazement, he suddenly announced my name, and that was the end of it. We worked till 2019.
“In 2019, I approached the President and suggested that he reshuffle his cabinet because, in the eyes of many, a President working with the same Ministers for four years was unusual in our society.” Buhari has kindly permitted his Ministers to serve another four years in government. Ministers usually serve for two years before being reshuffled.
“But I know him well enough to know that it will be difficult for him to do so.” But I decided to make it easier for him by promising to bring people that would perform a better job than me and the other Ministers who served during my first tenure.”
