Senator Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, who stepped aside on Tuesday, is set to fight his suspension by a Benue State High Court in Makurdi on Monday.
Ayu’s Special Assistant on Communication, Simon Imobo-tswam, disclosed this to our correspondent immediately after the party announced the appointment of Umar Damagum Ayu as interim national chairman.
The Igorov ward executive committee in Benue State’s Gboko Local Government Area dismissed Ayu on Sunday for suspected anti-party activities and for not paying his membership dues.
Following the suspension, a Benue State court banned Ayu from presenting himself as the party’s chairman, in response to a petition filed by a former aide to the state governor, Conrad Utaan.
The first and second respondents were Ayu and the PDP, respectively.
A hearing in the case has been scheduled for April 17.
