The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has instructed its members to partake in the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
On Monday, ASUU issued a directive to its members, instructing them to initiate the strike at midnight on Monday, aligning with the broader industrial action.
In a circular sent to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of the Union, confirmed their decision, asserting that ASUU has officially joined the nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The union expressed its position in a circular addressed to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, signed by Emmanuel Osodeke, the National President of the Union.
“As an affiliate of the NLC, all members of our union are hereby directed to join this action of the NLC to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the union.
“Zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilize our members to participate in the action.”
As previously reported by Tribune Online, the NLC and the TUC had communicated with their affiliates, instructing them to commence the planned nationwide strike set to commence at midnight on Monday. This strike is a response to the recent alleged assault on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, by the Nigerian police and the Imo State government.
