The Nigerian Army denied allegations of theft of community land for a proposed civil-military intervention project in Orolu Community, Osun State, on Wednesday. This was said by Brig-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations in Abuja.
Nwachukwu stated that in a statement, Chief Babatunde Oyetunji, Eesa of Ifon, claimed that the Nigerian Army had chosen to forcibly grab property for a projected project in Orolu Community. He stated that the allegations were entirely false, spiteful, and an attempt by certain vested interests to damage the good reputation of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and drag the institution’s name through the dirt.
“The truth is that one of the Nigerian army’s lines of operations in addressing security challenges in the country is the Non-kinetic line of operations.””It is a soft approach aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the public through the use of Civil-Military Cooperation activities or Nigerian Army programmes.”
“As a result, the Nigerian army typically executes special community intervention projects, such as hospitals, boreholes, and electrification, amongst others, based on needs assessment, after consultations with the leadership of such communities, and at the behest of senior officers who hail from the benefiting community,” he explained.
