Dr. Alex Otti, the incoming governor of Abia, has been charged by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director general of the World Trade Organization, to lead a clean and transparent government.
The new administration, according to Okonjo-Iweala, should concentrate on “disruptive strategies rather than traditional operational systems.”
She made the statement in a speech she virtually delivered at the 100-member 2023 Abia Transition Council’s inauguration ceremony, which was held in Aba, the capital of Abia.
I told the governor-elect that this governance would determine everything we did, she said.
“Nigerians have lost faith in government, especially those from that part of the South-East.
They no longer think the government can help them in any way.
“They provide for themselves electricity, boreholes, and everything else.
The Nigerian-born economic expert added, “Although that is entrepreneurial, on the other hand, that is not how to run the place.”
She asked Otti to lead a “example-setting governance” that was “better and cleaner” and transparent.
Okonjo-Iweala asked Abians living abroad who have the ability to help restore the state and advance development to come home and lend a hand.
In Otti, she saw “a rare opportunity to put Abia on the right side of development and modernization through disruptive digital technology,” she hoped.
She gave the governor-elect the advice to consider how to modernize Abia’s operations and board the human race’s future train.
