TRAGEDY struck as Maxwell, a 23-year-old University of PortHarcourt undergraduate, drowned in the Amekpa area of Ughelli under unclear circumstances, leaving family and friends in despair.
Maxwell’s body was discovered floating in the dirty waters of Amekpa on Tuesday.
According to a deceased neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous, Maxwell drowned while crossing the dredging site with companions in a little boat.
“On Sunday, there was confusion in our area as news filtered in that Maxwell died in a capsized canoe as they attempted to cross the dredging area,” she said.
“The friends arrived to inform the parents. Attempts were made to locate the body. The body drifted away yesterday morning (Tuesday). There was confusion since sacrifices were required before he can be buried near the site.
