The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mocked Senator Dino Melaye, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), regarding the purported desertion of ADC members in Idah Local Government of Kogi State.
On Saturday, the media was inundated with reports that the ADC structure in Idah LGA had disintegrated, with its members pledging allegiance to Senator Dino Melaye and shifting their allegiance to the PDP in preparation for the Kogi State governorship election scheduled for November 11.
Responding in a statement on Sunday, Adaji John, the Kogi State chairman of ADC, asserted that the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate had fallen victim to con artists.
The statement reads: “In the video clip, only Dino Melaye is seen addressing an imaginary ADC audience. No individuals from the audience are visible, and the so-called ‘ADC party materials’ that the supposed defectors brought are not displayed openly.
“Undoubtedly, a perceptive individual would recognize that the narrative is baseless. Nevertheless, we were not taken aback by such unfounded claims propagated by the PDP candidate’s media handlers.
“First and foremost, the African Democratic Congress chairman for Idah Council Area is Adejo Ameadaji from Igalogba ward. If indeed someone visited or welcomed Dino, their intentions were to deceive him, and they succeeded.
“This incident is entirely fabricated and an attempt to swindle Dino. The face featured in the video is not an ADC party member; in fact, to the best of our knowledge, he is from Ibaji and not affiliated with our party.
“The unidentified individuals, led by the elusive Adejoh Haruna (whose face the camera deliberately avoids capturing), have likely capitalized on Dino Melaye’s gullibility or repaid him in his own coin, as it is public knowledge that Melaye is a swindler and even mentors swindlers. This situation is essentially a case of outsmarting the con artist.
“The press release and the brief 40-second video clip effectively demonstrate that Melaye is a purveyor of falsehoods. We find it concerning that Mr. Melaye is resorting to the same tactics as the APC and Yahaya Bello, who have been churning out media reports about receiving numerous fictitious defectors.
“Unlike the governor, who managed to accompany his fictitious defection stories with images, Dino Melaye failed to provide any evidence. This marks a new low in propagating fake news, a practice that the PDP candidate has been associated with for an extended period, aiming to confuse the people of the state about their significance.”
Adaji John reiterated that not a single ADC member in Idah had switched to the PDP’s side, affirming that the name of the Idah ADC chairman is Adejo Ameadaji, not Adejoh Haruna.
“Our esteemed people of Kogi State, kindly disregard these desperate falsehoods. ADC remains steadfast in its mission to emancipate our state from malevolent influences,” he affirmed.
