Nigeria’s group consisting of Dubem Nwachukwu, Patience Okon George, Ezekiel Nathaniel, and Imaobong Nse Uko will not be continuing in the 4x400m mixed relay event at this year’s World Athletics Championships. This decision comes after their 7th-place finish in Heat 2.
Although they managed to achieve a season-best time of 3:14:38, it proved insufficient to secure any of the available non-automatic qualification positions.
Nwachukwu delivered an impressive performance in the lead leg despite being in the 9th lane, yet once Okon took over, Nigeria began to lose ground. Uko, who ran the anchor leg, was unable to improve upon the position that Nathaniel had achieved when passing the baton to her.
As a result, Nigeria’s overall ranking stands at 12th out of 16 participating teams.
