The Ondo State Police Command announced on Wednesday that it had begun a search for Mrs. Tayelolu Solomon, a middle-aged woman accused of murdering her husband, Mr. Felix Solomon, in Ondo town.
Reportedly, Tayelolu struck her 67-year-old husband with a pestle while he was asleep at the Government Reserved Area of the community last Saturday. Prior to this tragic incident, it was revealed that the couple had been experiencing ongoing conflicts.
Ibukun Solomon, the son of the deceased who witnessed the incident, confirmed that his mother allegedly attacked his father’s head with a pestle while he was asleep and then fled the scene. He mentioned that the couple had engaged in a heated argument earlier on the same day, which had escalated into a physical altercation. After their fight, his father had retreated to a chair, and it was during this moment that his mother struck his head with the pestle.
Ibukun recounted, “He became unconscious in the process and fell down from where he was sleeping. My mother used the pestle to hit my father’s head three times, and he later died. When my mother saw that my father was already unconscious, she hid the pestle at the back of our house and ran away. I alerted some of the residents, who rushed my father to the hospital. But he later died. His corpse has been deposited at the morgue. My mother had three children for my father, and I’m the last child.”
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and stated that the police were actively searching for the suspect. She explained that the deceased was promptly taken to the hospital after the incident but unfortunately passed away. She added, “The incident happened last week when the couple had a fight, but the suspect is currently at large. We are already on her trail.”
