The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu, has demised the circulation of a memo that was inaccurately worded regarding a directive given to Commanding Officers.

This clarification was provided through a statement released by the spokesperson of the FRSC, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, on Thursday in Abuja.

Kazeem explained that the memo in question pertained to a directive issued to Commanding Officers, which aimed to put an end to the practice of having patrol operatives ride in the vehicles of offenders during impoundment.

He further clarified that the original directive was issued in a memo dated September 12, 2023, with the reference FRSC/HQ/OPS/94/VOLXVI/094. The memo was titled ‘Immediate Ban on Placing Staff in Offenders’ Vehicles to Escort for Impoundment.’

Kazeem pointed out that this directive was initially misinterpreted as a complete ban on the impoundment of vehicles by the corps. However, he stressed that the Corps Marshal’s directive was intended to correct an earlier one, and it specifically banned the practice of placing staff in offenders’ vehicles for escort during impoundment by patrol teams, regardless of the traffic infraction committed.

The FRSC expressed regret for any confusion caused by the earlier memo and affirmed that the current stance of the corps aligns with the clarified directive.
