President Bola Tinubu is presently chairing the inaugural meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for his administration at the Council Chambers in Abuja’s State House.
It’s worth noting that President Tinubu took office on May 29, and his newly appointed cabinet members were sworn in the previous week after receiving Senate confirmation, in accordance with the constitutional requirements.
Comprising 45 ministers who successfully passed the screening process, the cabinet also saw three nominees being denied clearance.
Among those present at the first FEC session are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
During the ministers’ swearing-in ceremony on August 21, President Tinubu underlined their primary responsibility to restore public confidence in the government, reinstating the belief that capable hands within the government can effectively serve. He stressed the importance of integrity, dignity, and efficient service delivery, asserting his commitment to holding the ministers to the elevated expectations of the Nigerian people.
Regarding the Senate’s role in this process, President Tinubu acknowledged that 45 ministers, chosen for their proven records of accomplishment in both the public and private sectors, had been screened and confirmed. He emphasized that they bring a range of experiences and expertise that reflect Nigeria’s diversity, and these attributes will aid in guiding the nation’s progress, reconstructing the country, and addressing financial and developmental challenges to build a better future.
