The Federal Government and organised labour are now meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss possible initiatives following the removal of fuel subsidy.
The meeting on Monday, which began about 05:30 p.m., is expected to consider organised labour’s demands for an increased minimum wage as well as the FG’s proposed palliatives.
The FG and the two labour centres — the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress — agreed to continue talks and secure an agreement on the resolutions at their most recent meeting on June 5, 2023.
The resolution said that “the labour centres and the Federal Government will meet on June 19, 2023, to agree on an implementation framework.”
The NLC delegation, led by President Joe Ajaero, the TUC delegation, led by President Festus Osifo, the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Zachaeus Adedeji, the Special Adviser for Energy, Olu Verheijen, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachallom Daju are all present.
Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Gbenga Komolafe, and others are also present.
