Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has refuted the circulating reports suggesting that she was assaulted due to her visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Yesterday, the former minister paid a visit to Tinubu at his residence. Shortly after her visit, a letter surfaced on social media, claiming that she had received threats for meeting with Tinubu.
The letter contained a portion that read, “They are using a visit I made for the betterment of our nation to intimidate my family and me. It’s paradoxical to ask for help from someone you don’t acknowledge as your president while simultaneously seeking protection from threats in your area.”
In response to the alleged letter, Okonjo-Iweala urged Nigerians to dismiss its contents, pointing out that it was intentionally fabricated to sow discord among the populace.
She stated, “I’ve just become aware of a false message circulating on WhatsApp, falsely attributed to me, alleging that I’m facing attacks due to my visit to President Tinubu. This message is completely untrue and maliciously fabricated, with the intent of causing discord among Nigerians. Kindly disregard this message.”
