Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has encouraged the youth in the state to embrace the digital revolution and innovation, aiming to stimulate the growth of the startup ecosystem within the region.
This initiative came to light as Soludo inaugurated the Solution Innovation District (SID) in Awka, a comprehensive center for young individuals focused on innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship. The district will provide training, incubation, and access to investment opportunities.
During the unveiling, Governor Soludo praised the 20,000 Anambra youths who recently participated in the “LevelUp Anambra” program, an initial training program within the Solution Innovation District, where they acquired various digital skills online. He emphasized the significance of SID as a testament to the state government’s commitment to nurturing the potential of Anambra’s youth.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to Microsoft and the Wootlab Foundation for collaborating with the State government to bring this program to fruition. He revealed plans for the current Government House to become the permanent location for the Solution Innovation District once the new government house, currently under construction, is operational.
Governor Soludo underscored the importance of embracing necessary disruptive changes in Nigeria, such as the removal of subsidies and floating exchange rates. He urged the youth to focus on tomorrow and be prepared to embrace the opportunities arising from ongoing disruptive changes, stressing the significance of continuous innovation and acquiring scalable skills in a digital age.
He further emphasized that technology should become the culture of the state, empowering and training the youth to control the future and make significant contributions on a global scale. He dismissed a small number of criminals who cause trouble in society, stating that they do not define the people or their aspirations.
Ms. Chinwe Okoli, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation, expressed her appreciation to the Governor for his commitment in bringing this vision to life. She explained that the Solution Innovation District serves as a platform for young talents to innovate, create, and explore their immense potentials. The SID offers various programs, including business incubation, digital skills training, business acceleration, angel investment, and the outsourcing of talents from Anambra.
Both the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, and the Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu, commended the district, aligning it with Governor Soludo’s dedication to the development of Anambra’s youth.
