The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has denied supporting All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde in the ahead of the general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, National Secretary Saleh Dass clarified the situation.
Dass recalled that the National Working Committee, NWC, only issued advice to state chapters due to the ongoing court case regarding the leadership’s lawful constitution.
The directive stated that they were free to form coalitions “with an opposition party” for the sake of the February and March elections.
Dass said that those who chose to side with the ruling APC as well as the PDP in Oyo violated the SDP’s resolution.
The NWC has constituted a five-member committee, with Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina serving as Chairman, according to the secretary.
Mallam Nasiru N’Abba, Mr. Kelvin Damara, Mrs. Y. Nolan are members, while Mrs Adenike Olujembola will act as Secretary.
The committee is to meet on the reports that some leaders of the SDP in Oyo and elsewhere are supporting Tinubu and Makinde “contrary to the directive of the party.
