The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has expressed its preparedness to address any concerns raised by stakeholders in relation to the recently agreed-upon harmonized revenue collection template between the FCT Administration and its six Area Councils.
During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on revenue harmonization with Kuje Area Council in Abuja, Mr. Haruna Abdullahi, the Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, made it clear that the project is evolving, and stakeholders are encouraged to seek clarifications. He assured that the Service is dedicated to providing answers, resolving concerns, and enhancing comprehension.
Mr. Abdullahi emphasized that the ongoing harmonization process in the FCT is a long-term endeavor and not a quick undertaking. He explained that the signed MoU between FCT-IRS and Kuje Area Council outlines the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, serving as both a model and a source of optimism, exemplifying the benefits of collaboration.
He stated, “This initiative isn’t limited to Kuje; it serves as a model and a symbol of what can be achieved through collective efforts. It’s important to note that all concerns are valid, which is why we are here. We will continue to engage major stakeholders and address any unsettling issues in accordance with the law. Everyone has the right to seek clarification.”
Acknowledging the challenges inherent in the harmonization journey, he reaffirmed the commitment to transparency and integrity in the process. Abdullahi assured residents that every contribution will be meticulously accounted for and utilized wisely. He stressed that the FCT-IRS is utilizing technology, partnerships, and international best practices to maintain the highest standards.
The FCT-IRS praised the dedication and support of Mr. Adesola Olusade, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, throughout this journey, underscoring his unwavering commitment as a source of hope and inspiration.
Abdullahi also commended Mr. Abdullahi Sabo, the Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, for his unwavering support in the harmonization process.
Mr. Sabo reiterated Kuje Area Council’s confidence in FCT-IRS’s ability to effectively manage revenue collection on their behalf.
Mr. Adesola Olusade, the FCTA Permanent Secretary, present at the MoU signing, highlighted that the journey toward harmonization and improving business procedures began in 2012. He emphasized that this process doesn’t amount to concession but is aimed at FCT-IRS collecting revenue on behalf of other revenue agencies and area councils, ensuring accountability and transparency in the remittance process.
