The Court of Appeal Headquarters on Monday announced that the verdict of the presidential tribunal concerning the pending petitions would be broadcasted live. This decision was made in the interest of fostering transparency and openness, enabling the Nigerian public to observe the proceedings.
Umar Bangari, the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal HQ, conveyed this information in an official statement while revealing the date for the judgment. The judgment is scheduled to be delivered on September 6, 2023.
The statement read, “The Court of Appeal wishes to inform the general public that the verdict in the following petitions before the Presidential Election Petition Court will be issued on Wednesday, September 6, 2023: CA/PEPC/03/2023, involving Mr. Peter Gregory Obi & Anor VS. Independent National Electoral Commission & 3 Ors; CA/PEPC/04/2023, between Allied Peoples Movement VS. Independent National Electoral Commission & 4 Ors; CA/PEPC/05/2023, involving Abubakar Atiku & Anor VS. Independent National Electoral Commission & 2 Ors. In an effort to promote transparency and openness, these judgments will be broadcasted live by interested television stations for public viewing.”
Furthermore, it was clarified that only authorized individuals, including legal representatives and political party delegates, would be granted access to the courtroom on the day of the judgment. The statement emphasized, “Access to the Court premises will be strictly controlled through accreditation.
Only accredited individuals, including legal representatives and political party representatives, will be allowed into the courtroom. Interested members of the public are encouraged to follow the proceedings from the comfort of their television sets. We kindly request the full cooperation of the general public to ensure a smooth and trouble-free process.”
