The Abia State Police Command has officially confirmed the tragic murder of Mr. Zachary Nmaduka, a prominent member of the Labour Party (LP). The incident occurred in Amelechi Akpukpa community, Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state by unidentified persons.
The police have also verified that the victim was not only attacked but also beheaded by his attackers, who left the scene with the severed head.
In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon by ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the Command provided details of the incident. According to the statement:
“On September 13, 2023, at approximately 8:30 PM, the DPO Uturu Police division received discreet information concerning the unfortunate murder of Hon. Zachary Nmaduka, also known as Power Zack, a 70-year-old native of Ezieke Akpukpa Uturu. Mr. Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community.”
In response to this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel was dispatched to the scene, where they discovered Mr. Nmaduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was collected at the scene, and the deceased’s remains were promptly transported to Marist Mortuary Uturu.
The statement also indicated that investigations into the matter are currently underway.
Before his tragic murder, Mr. Nmaduka was a grassroots politician who had been vocal about the issue of insecurity in certain areas of Uturu. He was also known to have served as a campaign director for the Labour Party in the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency during the last general election.
