Mr. Gabriel Agabi Akwaji, a University Don, has been arrested by the Police Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Ogoja Command, for impersonating a Returning Officer in Yache Ward, Yala Local Government in the ongoing Presidential and National Assembly elections in Cross River State.
It was further claimed that Akwaji collated results using fake BVAS in order to mislead INEC with results purportedly generated from sites other than the polling units in Yache Ward since the BVAS used were allegedly aren’t those provided by INEC.
Gabriel Akwaji, who impersonated the Ward’s original Returning Officer, Dr. Dominic Abakedi of the Department of Philosophy, University of Calabar, did not return with Ward’s results until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
It discovered that one of the alleged fake BVASs used had the serial number 09/18/10/012 and that 216 voters were registered and 250 votes were cast.
But, the Fake Returning Officer, who is now in police custody, presented results from Ward’s 33 voting Booths after being allegedly driven into the Okpoma Collation Center by a Chieftain of the ruling party.
