Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has claimed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, is attempting to treat Tinubu in the same way that retired military head of state Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) treated MKO Abiola, whose presidential election victory was annulled 30 years ago.
Onanuga stated this in a tweet on Tuesday.
He compared Obi’s decision to challenge the 2023 presidential election results to IBB’s invalidation of MKO Abiola’s 1993 election.
According to Onanuga, “Peter Obi of the Labour Party seeks the annulment of President-elect Bola Tinubu’s election, much as the military overturned MKO Abiola’s election on June 12, 1993.”
He did, however, state that Tinubu and his followers are prepared to defend his election victory in court, adding, “Team Tinubu will undoubtedly meet you (Obi) in court.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Obi filed a plea before the Abuja tribunal.
Obi and the Labour Party, LP, are contesting Tinubu’s election as the victor of the presidential election on February 25, 2023.
The Labour Party and its presidential candidate have asked the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of votes cast during the election. They want an order demanding that INEC retrieve Tinubu’s certificate of return and provide a fresh one to Obi.
