The Labour Party, LP, and its candidate, Mr Peter Obi, have formally filed a petition to nullify Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
The petition’s first to fourth respondents are the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tinubu, his running mate, Senator Shettima, and the APC.
The petitioners want the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast.
They want INEC to retrieve the Certificate of Return issued to the APC candidate and issue it to the LP candidate, Obi.
The petitioners specifically claimed that Tinubu was qualified to contest elections.
They both argued that the election was unconstitutional due to corrupt practices and noncompliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act of 2012.
Similarly, the Action Alliance, AA, and the Allied Peoples Movement have filed separate petitions to challenge the presidential election outcome.
The petition of AA and its presidential candidate, Solomon Okanigbuan, was marked CA/PEPC/01/2023, while the APM petition was marked CA/PEPC/04/2023.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is set to file his own petition before the deadline of midnight.
