Senator Dino Melaye, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming November 11th election, expressed his determination to win the election without fear of intimidation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye made this declaration during the inauguration of the state PDP executive members in Lokoja on Thursday. He encouraged his party members to campaign vigorously and vote without fear, despite the intimidation and harassment tactics employed by the APC-led administration of Governor Yahaya Bello.
“We are all aware of the tactics of intimidation and harassment the Governor Yahaya Bello-led APC administration has used to instil fear in its opponents in the November 11th governorship election. As committed supporters of the PDP, we must be bold and resolute in our determination to dislodge the APC and restore hope to the people of Kogi. Let us use the upcoming election to usher in a new era where everyone will feel included,” he asserted.
Melaye stressed the importance of the voters’ role in bringing about change, urging them to vote for the PDP to secure liberation and freedom from what he described as “slavery.”
He pointed out that the state was facing challenging times and emphasized that only the votes of the people could lead the state to a better future. Melaye also highlighted the PDP’s commitment to the “Kogi agenda,” as opposed to the ethnic agendas promoted by the ruling party.
He expressed concern over the emergence of ethnic agendas such as the “Ebira agenda,” “Igala agenda,” and “Okun-Yoruba agenda,” and stated that the PDP aimed to put an end to these narratives in order to create a more inclusive future for Kogi.
Following the inauguration, the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Olajide Johnson, thanked party members for their trust in him to lead the party. He called on members and supporters to cooperate fully to ensure the party’s victory in the governorship election, emphasizing that Senator Melaye represents the collective destiny of Kogi residents.
