Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, issued a cautionary message to the corps members of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One, advising them to refrain from engaging in cultism and drug abuse, particularly during their time at the orientation camp.
Emphasizing the significance of adhering to the rules and regulations of the scheme, Ahmed warned that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on those who violated them. Furthermore, he encouraged the corps members to familiarize themselves with the provisions outlined in the NYSC Act and the NYSC bylaws to ensure a successful year of service.
In a nationwide address to the corps members, who recently commenced their orientation exercise nationwide, Ahmed stressed that infringement of the scheme’s dress code would result in penalties, as stipulated in the NYSC Act. He stated, “It is essential that you comply with all camp regulations and exhibit obedience towards the course officials. I must also caution you against indulging in vices such as cultism and drug abuse, which are strictly prohibited within the camp.”
“To clarify any doubts, any violation of the dress code will be met with appropriate penalties, as prescribed in the NYSC Act. I urge you to adhere to the official dress code for corps members and ensure that you wear the appropriate attire for each occasion,” he added.
The DG also advised the corps members to take full advantage of the scheme’s four core programs, namely orientation, primary assignment, community development service, and passing out/winding up activities, as a means to contribute to the development of the nation.
Meanwhile, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, the Governor of Sokoto State, assured the corps members posted to the state of adequate security throughout their service year. During the inauguration of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One at the Wamakko permanent orientation camp, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritize the security of the corps members.
