The House of Representatives has encouraged the National University Commission to grant university students a break so that they can vote in the general election in 2023.
The House adopted this resolution in response to a motion introduced by Ibrahim Kabir at plenary on Thursday.
Kabir, who introduced the motion, stated that the House must persuade the commission to suspend academic operations.
Students make up a significant portion of the electorate, according to Kabir, who estimates that they make up around 40% of newly registered voters.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila put the matter to a vote, and it passed with the “ayes.”
