The New Nigeria People’s Party’s National, (NNPP), Working Committee has made an official announcement about the suspension of two of its members. These members are Boniface Aniebonam, who played a pivotal role in founding the party, and Agbo Major, who serves as the National Publicity Secretary.
Through a statement endorsed by Mallam Abba Kawu Alli, the acting National Chairman of the party, it was revealed that this suspension takes immediate effect and will persist until the disciplinary committee of the party concludes its investigations.
Alli stated, “Recent developments involving the reorganization of our party and the behavior of certain members have resulted in the expulsion of two party members, the temporary suspension of around seven former state chairpersons, and the dissolution of executive committees in nine state chapters.”
Alli further disclosed that the suspension has arisen due to disruptive actions carried out by the party’s founding chairman, who seemingly considered the political platform to be his personal domain. “Regrettably, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, one of the party’s founders, has claimed the sole authority to overturn decisions made by the National Working Committee, even those that were formally approved by the National Executive Committee. This is a situation that the responsible National Working Committee cannot allow to persist.”
“In accordance with our constitution, we have decided to suspend Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam and Dr. Agbo Major, the National Publicity Secretary. This suspension will continue until the national-level disciplinary committee completes its investigations.”
Alli also pointed out that these individuals and their suspended counterparts have engaged in activities that contravene Article 39.2 (7) of the party’s regulations, including actions that might harm the party’s interests or generate animosity, disdain, disrespect, or mockery towards the party.
“It has come to our attention that they are actively attempting to destabilize the party alongside some of the previously suspended members. Consequently, these gentlemen, along with the others who were previously suspended, will be granted access to the disciplinary committee for a fair hearing, in line with our constitution. Additionally, an appeal process, clearly outlined in our constitution, is available.”
Alli also urged the media to accurately refer to the suspended members as ‘suspended’ chairpersons or members of the party.
