The leadership of organized labour in Anambra State has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in alleviating the difficulties caused by the removal of petrol subsidies. The groups, which include the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), expressed gratitude to the governor for his inclusive approach in distributing relief measures beyond just government workers.

Last week, Governor Soludo announced the distribution of rice to more than 300,000 households across the state, along with an additional N12,000 to be included in workers’ salaries from September to December.

In a formal letter signed by the chairpersons and secretaries of the labor unions, it was stated: “On behalf of the workforce and pensioners of Anambra State, we take this opportunity to convey our deep appreciation to His Excellency, Mr. Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for the monthly cash award of twelve thousand naira (N12,000.00) bestowed upon both active and retired workers.”

“The comprehensive scope of your relief measures, which encompass all Anambranians—whether employed, unemployed, disadvantaged, market vendors, the ailing, expectant mothers, schoolchildren and students, craftsmen, and transporters—deserves commendation,” the letter continued.

The organized labour also expressed gratitude for Governor Soludo’s recent integration of employees from the recently closed Anambra-owned National Light newspaper into various government ministries.

“The incorporation of more than 70 National Light newspaper workers is likewise acknowledged. Your receptive attitude towards organized labour and your commitment to addressing the numerous challenges faced by workers in the state are deeply appreciated. We commit to collaborating with your administration to propel Anambra State into a rapid developmental trajectory across all sectors,” the letter concluded.
