The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has campaigned for safer cyberspace in preparation for this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by NITDA’s Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar.
NITDA highlighted that it has collaborated with CISCO to provide training to 3,242 individuals in basic and intermediate cybersecurity skills. The statement went on to explain that Cybersecurity Awareness Month, observed globally every October, is dedicated to educating and raising awareness about cybersecurity. This year marks the 20th anniversary of collaborative awareness campaigns between public and private sector organizations worldwide.
In celebration of the 2023 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, NITDA has organized a series of programs aimed at educating the general public about cybersecurity threats and the necessary measures to safeguard themselves in the ever-expanding digital landscape. The theme for this year’s celebration is “See Yourself in Cyber,” emphasizing that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility. The primary goal of this awareness campaign is to encourage the adoption of safe online practices. To achieve this effectively, individuals must accept, comprehend, and be willing to implement these security measures to ensure their own safety.
NITDA also mentioned that it is collaborating with key stakeholders to conduct grassroots awareness campaigns and educate the general public about cyber threats and protective measures. Additionally, NITDA, in partnership with O-range Cybersecurity Training Service Limited, conducted a Cybersecurity Training program in Ilorin, Kwara State, where over 5,000 youths from various states participated.
The statement concluded by calling on both private and public sector organizations, as well as the general public, to join efforts in ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria’s cyberspace. Together, they can work towards making the Nigerian cyberspace and the global digital landscape safe and secure for everyone.
