Hon. Umar Bago, Governor of Niger State, has given an order for security officers to conduct stop and search in an effort to curtail insecurity in the state.
The Governor gave the order while continuing his Emirates trip by paying Sallah respect to the Emir of Minna, Alh. Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago, at his palace in Minna, the state capital.
Complimenting the Emir on the recent armed robbery attack on his cashier on Tuesday, he assured him that his administration remained committed to ensuring the security of its citizens’ lives and property.
“We are on top of the situation,” he said, adding that “the perpetrators will be brought to justice.” We’ve given a marching order for stop and search operations in Minna metropolis and other parts of the state.”
The Governor underlined that youth unrest would not be condoned in the state, while warning members of the judiciary to refrain from providing illegal bail and pardon to culprits.
Bago further said that schools that had been closed due to insecurity would be reopened, and that internally displaced persons (IDPs) would be allowed to return to their ancestral homes safefely.
Earlier, the Emir of Minna, Alh. Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago, commended the Governor for his efforts thus far in safeguarding the safety of Nigerlites and urged him to be more deliberate in taking actions that will make the state a safe haven for everybody.
He then assured governor Bago of the emirate’s commitment to the current administration’s success.
The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Sen. Mohammed Sani Musa, Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Alh. Abubakar Usman Jn Gawu, Chief of Staff, Alh. Abdullahi Usman Gbatamangi, and other top government officials and APC chieftains in the state.
