The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has been pleaded with by Igbo Indigenes Without Border, a sociocultural organization with members both inside and outside of Nigeria, particularly in China, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, to get involved in the case of the former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
At a press conference held on Friday in Abuja, the group’s president, Dr. Bernard Oshi, made the request.
The United Kingdom Central Criminal Court in London found Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice guilty of organ harvesting.
Oshi pleaded with Tinubu and the upcoming 10th National Assembly to investigate the situation humanely and persuade the British government to balance justice with mercy.
In a similar vein, he urged the diplomats to assist Ekweremadu, especially those from the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
He said that as a caring organization, the organization kept a close eye on Ekweremadu’s stellar public and private service record as a lawyer, philanthropist, politician, and patriot.
“This is not the kind of crime a man should be left to deal with alone,” he added, referring to Ekweremadu’s paternal instinct to care for his ailing daughter even at the heartbreaking expense of having to find a kidney donor.
Oshi used the press conference to congratulate the recently elected or reelected governors and state assembly members, as well as the president-elect Tinubu, vice president-elect Kashim Shettima, and all members of the National Assembly.
He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his vision and dedication to upholding national unity, especially during the recent trying years.
As we advance in our democratic path, “our hope and prayer is for Nigeria to continue to witness peace and prosperity,” he stated.
