General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnicity or religious beliefs. He asserted that the military remains impartial and uninvolved in politics and is fully dedicated to defending the nation’s territorial integrity against external threats.
General Musa expressed these during his visit to the leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs at the National Mosque in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Friday. He explained that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian armed forces and religious leaders across the country.
He assured, “The Military remains committed to the protection of the lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion.”
The Chief of Defence Staff urged religious leaders in Nigeria to use their positions to promote peace and unity, which are essential for the country’s socio-economic development. General Musa emphasized that only through peace and unity can progress be achieved in all aspects of life within the nation.
During the visit, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari, and other attending Imams expressed gratitude to General Musa for his visit. They pledged to continue advocating for peace in their sermons and affirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and unity among all Nigerians.
