Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), has expressed her appreciation to the Consulate General of India for selecting LASU as one of the venues for observing the launch of the Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft to the moon.
Mrs. Adenike Boyo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), represented Olatunji-Bello and conveyed this sentiment during the live stream of the Indian satellite’s lunar landing event, organized by the Indian High Commission in Lagos on Wednesday.
A recently launched Indian satellite successfully landed on the moon on Wednesday, and LASU was chosen as one of the locations where school pupils could witness the landing in real-time.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the university was proud to be associated with this initiative as it aligns with their commitment to harnessing the potential of science and technology. She emphasized the historical significance of Chandrayaan 3’s landing on the moon’s South Pole, noting that it would leave a lasting impression on Indians and contribute to their knowledge and engagement with the world of science and technology.
Furthermore, she expressed LASU’s willingness to collaborate on mutually beneficial programs and projects aimed at enhancing the lives of Lagos residents.
Mahesh Narasimhan, the Consulate General of India in Lagos, highlighted that this marked India’s third lunar mission and that Chandrayaan 3’s landing on the moon’s South Pole was a remarkable achievement. He praised LASU as a distinguished university in Nigeria, particularly within Lagos State, and explained that choosing LASU as a viewing centre was a reflection of its esteemed status.
Ramesh Biswal, the Coordinator of the Lagos chapter of the Sanyukta Bharitiya Association, emphasized that Chandrayaan 3’s accomplishment was not only a source of pride for Indians but also a significant achievement for the global community. He elaborated on the mission’s goal to explore the moon and provide insights into various lunar phenomena.
