The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, has urged lawyers and legal practitioners in Nigeria to uphold the rule of law, emphasizing that failure to do so could lead to chaos in society. He made this call during a visit by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kalu expressed his delight at Maikyau’s appointment as NBA President and praised his leadership abilities. He emphasized the importance of everyone playing their role in nation-building, stating that the law governs all actions, and without it, society may descend into chaos. Kalu assured the NBA of his attendance at their upcoming 63rd Annual General Conference scheduled to take place in Abuja from 25th August to 1st September 2023.

Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, in turn, congratulated Kalu on his appointment as Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives and expressed confidence in his ability to carry out the demands of his office. Maikyau encouraged Kalu to attend the NBA’s Annual General Conference.

Additionally, during a courtesy call by Leaders and Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Abia State at the National Assembly, Abuja, Kalu emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians. He stressed that togetherness fosters strength and facilitates local, state, and national development. Kalu also called on Abians to come together, forgive past differences, and work collectively for the progress of the state and the entire South-East geopolitical zone.

The visiting delegation, led by Senator Chris Aduighije, conferred on Kalu the position of the Political Leadership of not only Abia State but the entire South-East. They urged him to use his position to strengthen the APC in the region and work towards making it an APC stronghold. The Deputy Speaker accepted the offer with gratitude and pledged to maintain the region’s support.
