The All Progressives Congress (APC), currently in power, has commenced the electronic registration process for its extensive membership base, comprising over 40 million individuals. This move aims to strengthen the party’s membership foundation in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, made this announcement during a meeting with a delegation of elected Deputy National Officers and National Executive Committee members from the party, held at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
This decision comes approximately two years after the National Caretaker Committee, led by Mai Mala Buni, conducted a nationwide membership registration drive, resulting in the party’s current membership exceeding 40 million.
Dr. Ganduje, while addressing the press in Abuja, explained that the introduction of electronic registration is aimed at accurately documenting the current strength of the party’s membership. He also expressed disappointment with the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, as the number of votes received by the party did not reflect the actual size of its registered membership.
He remarked, “We previously reported having around 41 million members. However, during the presidential election, we only managed to secure eight million votes. What happened to the rest? This is precisely why we are embracing digital technology to ensure we work with accurate data.”
Dr. Ganduje went on to reveal that the APC has initiated the process of electronically reviewing its membership registration. He emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring that all members are registered electronically, enabling them to have an accurate physical count.
Furthermore, the former governor of Kano State disclosed the APC’s plans to establish a National Institute of Democratic Studies. This institute aims to help Nigerians shape their behaviour patterns in alignment with democratic principles and political ideologies.”
