Nigerian UFC star Israel Adesanya has vowed not to send his children to school, because it is a waste of time.. The New Zealand professional mixed martial artist of Nigerian descent, currently holding the UFC Middleweight title, has sparked discussion on social media with his remarks.
During an interview ahead of his title defence against Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in Australia, Adesanya engaged in a conversation unrelated to his fight, expressing his reluctance to send his kids to school. He argued that much of the knowledge acquired in schools is irrelevant, asserting that schools were primarily established to produce workers.
Adesanya remarked, “Honestly, I don’t even know why we still have this whole outdated concept of school to just build workers. Because we know what school was made for. Why are we pretending? We know school was created to create workers. I still don’t know what X is as an adult. A lot of useless information got passed on to me at school. I sucked at school because I was bad at memorizing, and I didn’t really learn anything.”
He expressed his belief that schools teach only the basics, such as math and English, while subjects like social studies, algebra, and calculus have limited real-world application. Consequently, he concluded, “So, forget school.”
Instead of sending his children to schools, Adesanya disclosed that he intends to hire tutors who will focus on teaching them fundamental skills. Additionally, he plans to involve his children in activities like jiu-jitsu and gymnastics to ensure they interact with other kids and develop essential social skills. He emphasized the importance of sports as a means for children to make new friends and build athleticism.

Adesanya outlined his plan, stating, “When I have kids, I’ll have a tutor that’s going to teach them from home from 9 am to midday… the rest of the day, we’re going to go on adventures… and then I’m going to have them do gymnastics, jiu-jitsu, so that they’re involved with other kids and not socially awkward.”
He expressed his desire to ensure that his children have well-rounded skills and can interact effectively with others through activities like gymnastics and jiu-jitsu. Adesanya envisions a balanced approach, combining home-schooling with physical and social activities for his future children.
