Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, has officially declared Monday, August 21, 2023, as a public holiday to commemorate the annual Isese Day.

Isese Day is an occasion observed by followers of traditional Yoruba religious practices to honor and celebrate Yoruba culture and traditions.

Governor Abiodun had previously issued an executive order on March 7, 2023, designating August 20 of each year as Isese Day in Ogun State. This order was subsequently granted legal validation by the state House of Assembly on July 11.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran, on Saturday, Governor Abiodun acknowledged and appreciated the harmonious coexistence among followers of various religions within the state.

He emphasized that the recognition given to Isese Day is a testament to the state’s commitment to respecting its heritage and upholding unity and amicability among the major religions practiced within its borders.

Governor Abiodun reiterated his unwavering support for and respect toward all religious beliefs in the state. He also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering, preserving, and nurturing the local culture and traditions.

While extending congratulations to adherents of traditional Yoruba practices on this occasion, he urged them to celebrate with dignity and refrain from actions that might endanger the existing peace within the state.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Prince Abiodun established the Alternate Medicine Board on September 29, 2020, to offer assistance to practitioners of alternative medicine in the state. This initiative acknowledges their roles as traditional birth attendants and their other contributions to the overall well-being of the state’s residents.
