According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, supplementary elections will be held following the Governorship and State Assembly elections.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC, on Thursday.
“The commission is aware that Declarations and Returns were not made in some Senatorial Districts and Federal Constituencies,” Okoye said. The commission is creating a list of the constituencies that are affected.
“After the Governorship and State Assembly elections, a date for supplementary elections will be fixed.”
Okoye assured that the Governorship and State Assembly elections, as well as the postponed elections in Enugu and Edo states, will take place on March 11.
“The commission held its regular weekly meeting today, Thursday 2nd March 2023, and deliberated on several issues, including the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Governorship and State Assembly elections, and the pending elections in Enugu East Senatorial District, Esan Central/Esan West, and Igueben Federal Constituencies in Edo State,” according to the statement.
“The commission assures Nigerians that the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday 11th March 2023 will proceed as scheduled and all the processes and procedures up to the election are being finalised.
“Furthermore, the commission will hold the rescheduled elections in Enugu and Edo states, as well as the Governorship and State Assembly elections, on Saturday, March 11, 2023.”
