Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), briefed President Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba, is also due to advise the Council on the police’s preparations for the country’s upcoming general elections, which begin with the presidential election on February 25th.
However, the cabinet meeting began at 9:58 a.m., and the IGP had yet to arrive at the Council Chamber where the meeting was being held.
A minute of silence was observed before Yakubu briefed council members in memory of Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (retd), former minister of special duties under General Yakubu Gowon.
Between July 1975 and March 1976, he was a member of General Murtala Muhammed’s Supreme Military Council in Nigeria, and from March 1976 to July 1978, he was military governor of Plateau State, which was formed from a portion of the previous Benue Plateau State.
