Dele Momodu, the Director of Strategic Communications for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, said that if he had the power, he would have removed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Momodu made this remark during an appearance on the Political Paradigm program on Channels Television, characterizing the former Rivers State Governor as an “unruly person.”
The PDP stalwart and Publisher of Ovation Magazine did not, however, criticize Wike’s appointment as a minister by President Bola Tinubu, who leads the country’s government under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Regarding the anti-party actions displayed by Wike against the PDP, Momodu stated, “I don’t have the authority; if I had the power, I would have dismissed him (Wike) a long time ago.”
In response to why he would consider expulsion, Momodu explained, “An unruly person who seeks to undermine our party? One individual cannot hold everyone hostage. If we fought against the military regime in this country, Tinubu was among those who fought against the military in this country, and now you would allow a civilian dictatorship?”
Wike, along with four other governors collectively known as the G-5, withdrew their support for the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the lead-up to the 2023 elections due to disagreements over power-sharing within the PDP.
The former Rivers State governor threw his support behind the eventual election winner, Tinubu, who subsequently appointed him as the FCT Minister.
Several PDP leaders have called for Wike’s expulsion from the party, but the minister has openly challenged party leaders to suspend or discipline him.
“Who will discipline me? I should be the one calling for the discipline of these individuals who violated the party’s constitution by disregarding the party’s rotation policy. Who will suspend me? I dare anyone,” Wike asserted.
He also mentioned that he had informed the PDP leadership before accepting the ministerial appointment from Tinubu.
