Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in the Senate, has revealed that she has not received any emails containing “prayers” from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Senator Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party (LP), responded to Akpabio’s announcement during the day’s plenary session that “prayers” had been dispatched to the legislators as they enter a recess.
Speaking on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Senator Kingibe humorously stated that she hadn’t received any “prayers” via email. She expressed her intention to check her email for these prayers but admitted to being uncertain about the context of Akpabio’s statement.
It’s worth noting that during the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday, the Senate President had informed Senators that a “token” had been transferred to their respective accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly to ensure a pleasant holiday period. Akpabio later retracted this statement, characterizing the purported disbursement as “prayers” sent to their “mailboxes.”
While recognizing that many people assumed the legislators might have received allowances, Akpabio clarified that such payments could pertain to statutory obligations that the lawmakers were entitled to receive regardless.
