Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, President-elect, stated Wednesday that the Federal Government, under his administration, is under no obligation to make refunds on federal projects undertaken by the states of the federation.
Tinubu, who was responding to a request by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike at the inauguration of the Rumuokuta flyover during a two-day visit to the state, told the Rivers governor that he could reconsider his stance on the request if the governor lobbied him.
“On the refund demand you made, I owe you nothing,” Tinubu stated. It’s your path. You are the one who lives on these roads. I appreciate your efforts. You have to lobby me to collect.”
“My visit to Rivers is a promise kept, promise fulfilled,” Tinubu remarked, referring to his growing relationship with Rivers’ outgoing governor. Governor Wike, when it comes to character, you are extremely dependable.
“I see a man of principle in Wike.” He declared that the President should be returned to the South. And he had the fortitude to hold firm in his conviction, regardless of whose ox is gored. He is a man of great integrity. You advocated for unity, fairness, and justice.
“Commissioning this project today is yet another way of building bridges across Nigeria, and its importance cannot be overstated.” I rely on the strength of your character to keep the promises I made during the campaigns. I’m glad we were able to establish a relationship.
“I’m a very content man.” We have something to look forward to in Nigeria as you make people happy and promote excitement and progress across this state.”
