On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the appointment of the service chiefs nominated by President Bola Tinubu. The decision came after the ad-hoc committee responsible for screening the top military officers presented their report, which was subsequently adopted.
Babajimi Benson, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee, submitted the report, and it was promptly accepted by the House. The service chiefs confirmed during the session of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday are Maj Gen Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj Gen Abiodun Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff.
It is worth noting that President Bola Tinubu had recently written to the House of Representatives, seeking confirmation of the nominated service chiefs. The president’s request is in accordance with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
