Prof Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, is accused of mocking supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi.
An Easter statement posted on the governor’s Facebook account wished Anambra residents a good Easter but noted that a headless crowd killed Christ because of their emotions, which conflicted with the truth personified by Christ.
Soludo had labeled Obi’s fans as a headless mob in an essay written in November 2022, fuelling speculation that the usage of the phrase again in today’s Easter message may have been in mocking of Obi’s supporters known as OBIdients.
The statements infuriated OBIdients, who reacted by criticizing Soludo in the comments area of his Facebook post.
The governor’s statement on his timeline read, “Christ is risen, hallelujah!” Our Lord delivered the unpalatable reality about salvation.
“He was mocked, condemned, and crucified by a headless mob.” Even after 2000 years, the truth, as expressed in the resurrected Christ and His message of redemption and eternity, continues to survive.
“History teaches us, and our Lord’s experience confirms, that when strong fleeting emotions collide with the truth, emotions triumph temporarily, but the truth ultimately triumphs.”
“May the resurrection power inspire all those with the wisdom and courage to always stand up for the inconvenient truth.” Truth will always triumph. Finally, no history book has ever been created in honor of the emotionally charged critics or the headless crowd.
“May Anambra and Nigeria always win. Happy Easter to us all!”
