Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has expressed his apprehension regarding the increasing number of terrorists seeking refuge in Nasarawa State while fleeing crisis-stricken areas of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State.
During an extensive security meeting held in the state capital to address emerging security threats, the governor also expressed alarm about the proliferation of illicit production of small arms and ammunition within the state.
The meeting, attended by security chiefs, selected local government chairpersons, and traditional rulers, disclosed intelligence reports pinpointing the presence of bandits in the Mangar and Ambaka areas of Wamba Local Government Area, as well as the Lafia East Development Area.
The security meeting’s agenda also involved evaluating the movement of Fulani herders in regions adjacent to neighboring Benue State.
Governor Sule remarked, “Lately, there has been a movement of herders, particularly Fulani herders. Although this may not pose a significant security challenge as they are moving to grazing areas, unfortunately, those areas also have problems since they are situated on the border between Keana and Guma Local Government Areas in Benue State.”
He expressed concerns that this situation could potentially lead to problems in the future, particularly in the Tunga area, which is of major concern.
Governor Sule commended the efforts of the security agencies operating in the state for conducting operations in Akwanga and Kokona local government areas, resulting in the apprehension of a notorious kidnapper identified as Lagudi and some members of his gang.
Additionally, he praised the 177 Guards Brigade and the police for their endeavors in containing the activities of the notorious Yan Shara cult group in Keffi.
The governor urged the security agencies to intensify their efforts to prevent the Yan Shara group from relocating to other areas.
