Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has officially introduced his new running mate, Chinyere Ekomaru, as they prepare for the upcoming governorship election on November 11, 2023.
The unveiling ceremony was held in Owerri on a Saturday.
Explaining his choice to replace his former deputy, Placid Njoku, with Mrs. Ekomaru, Uzodimma clarified, “The selection of a new running mate should not be interpreted as a fallout with the current Deputy Governor, Placid Njoku. This decision has arisen from a combination of broader ecumenical and political considerations.”
With this move, Uzodimma is strategically positioning himself to address the challenge posed by other governorship candidates, such as Lincoln Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA), Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), among others.
While Ogunewe and Senator Anyanwu hail from Imo East, and Senator Athan represents Imo North, Uzodimma represents Imo West.
As the election approaches, issues like security concerns, including house burnings and residents’ killings, rural underdevelopment, and the welfare of workers, remain significant topics of discussion.
