Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed his appreciation to the security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, for the enhanced security situation in the state, particularly with regard to the end of the sit-at-home directive.
Simultaneously, the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed that the security landscape can only continue to improve due to the substantial resources and manpower deployed in the state. They assured citizens of their safety as they engage in their daily activities.
Governor Mbah conveyed his commendation during a meeting with Major General Hassan Dada, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, at the Government House on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the improved security environment would significantly contribute to his administration’s commitment to foster unprecedented economic growth in the state, largely driven by private sector investments.
The governor highlighted the importance of peace and security in attracting private sector investments. He acknowledged the previous security challenges, particularly the recurring Monday sit-at-home orders, which had a negative impact on the state’s perception and its economy. He expressed gratitude for the military’s support in addressing this issue and the overall security concerns.
Governor Mbah stated, “We want to thank you in particular because of the sort of dedication and commitment we have witnessed in you and we must also by extension express our profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for bringing you here because we can see that not only have we been able to escort this big elephant called sit-at-home out of our state, but we are also enjoying a relatively peaceful and secure environment in our state today.”
He urged the military and security agencies to remain vigilant, cautioning that while substantial progress has been made, there’s a need to be prepared for any unforeseen developments, especially considering the criminals’ potential shift to social media propaganda.
General Dada, in his address, lauded Governor Mbah for his leadership in addressing insecurity and the issue of illegal sit-at-home orders. He credited the joint efforts of the army and security agencies for the restoration of security in Enugu State.
Accompanied by the Army high command in the South-East on a familiarization visit, General Dada assured that the support from higher authorities, including the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff, ensures that the security situation will continue to improve.
